Narrative Therapy and Expressive Arts

What are the Expressive Arts?

Expressive arts are an approach that uses visual arts, journaling, and movement to help guide us in self discovery and change. The expressive arts give us another type of language that is rich and meaningful because expressive arts engage the whole person; mind, body, spirit and emotions.

You don't need to be an artist to benefit from expressive arts. No previous art experience is required, and the creative activities are simple, accessible, and focused on the process rather than the finished product.

Using low-skill forms of visual art, writing, movement, and  music, expressive arts gently engage the senses and awaken the imagination. These creative practices help you discover inner strengths, deepen self-awareness, and access the emotional, relational, and spiritual resources that already exist within you. Often, the art itself reveals insights and possibilities that are difficult to express through words alone.

Through expressive arts, guided storytelling, journaling, workshops, retreats, groups, and facilitator training programs, participants are invited to explore their personal narratives, reconnect with their values, deepen their relationships, and cultivate a renewed sense of purpose and spiritual connection.
